NotesHe was killed in action on the Arras front on 16th April 1916. Aged 22. He was born and lived in Cromer. He enlisted Norwich, joing the 8th Rifle Brigade on 14th December 1914. He was the son of Seth and Elizabeth A. Bastow of Beach Station, Cromer. The census of 1911 records him as Norman James (the military record has James Norman) - then aged 16 - and a railway clerk. Seth Bastow was the Cromer station master.
