NotesHe was a drummer with the 1/5th Norfolk Regiment, reported wounded and missing at the second battle of Gaza, 19th April 1917. The 1911 census gives him as aged 20, and single, a clerk, the son of Herbert and Mary Anne Hastings of 14, Meadow Cottages, West Street, Cromer. The Second Battle of Gaza involved both the 4th and 5th Norfolks as part of the 54th (East Anglian) Division, with a high level of casualties.
Service InformationPrivate 240043. 1/5th Battalion Norfolk Regiment. Killed in action in Palestine on 19th April 1917. He was born and enlisted Cromer and is commemorated on the Jerusalem Memorial, Panels 12 to 15.
