NotesAt the time of his death Walter was a Sergeant of the 1st Norfolk Regiment. His home was Daisy Cottage, 13, Cross Street, Cromer. He was a member of the National Reserve Guard and enlisted in September 1914, going to France in November of that year. He was wounded at the capture of Hill 60 in 1915 and was reported wounded and missing at Bullecourt, then presumed dead on 9th May 1917. For many years he was in service at the Post Office in Cromer. The 1911 census records him as single, the son of Frances Martha Balls
