NotesAlfred Salter was a son of Alfred Edward Salter, the schoolmaster in Cromer and of his wife Sarah Ann Salter, née Mayes. Alfred was brother to William, who went missing in August 1916, near Waterlot Farm, during the battle of the Somme. Alfred emigrated to Canada prior to the war but returned with the Canadian Volunteer Force. After the war Alfred senior emigrated himself to join his son in Canada. In his notes for his final Magic Lantern lecture in Cromer, Alfred senior says that the two plates seen below for the photos of Alfred were sent to British Columbia first and then sent back to him in Cromer.
Alfred junior was the first Secretary of the St John Division in Cromer, which his father had help establish.
