Notes | Edmund Harrison was the son of Edmund are Elizabeth Harrison of Acle. He joined the Royal Navy in August 1914 as a seaman at H.M.S. Ganges and then a gunner, rising through the ranks to become a Lieutenant by the end of the First World War. He served on a number of vessels, including the cruiser H.M.S. Russell and the battleships H.M.S. Collosus and H.M.S.Talbot. In 1922 he was sommanding the trawler H.M.S. Adair in Constantinople.
He retired from the Navy in 1923, marrying Mary in Cromer, with whom he had two sons and a daughter. At Cromer he became a fireman at Cromer, becoming second in command to Theo Randall; he became sales manager for the East Coast Motor Company. He also acted on behalf of the Shipwrecked Mariners' Society and was a member of Baring Lodge.
With the outbreak of the Second World War he had rejoined the Royal Navy by April 1940. At the time the family lived at Sycamores, Holt Road, Cromer. In October 1940 he is listed as Lieutentant Commander, acting commander of the shore minesweeping base H.M.S. Paragon at Hartlepool.
Whilst based at Hartlepool he was injured in a road accident when driving back to the town from Seaton Carew. He was being treated at the side of the road when he was struck by another vehicle, dying from his injuries.
